Apple’s Next iPad May Be Hard to Resist

My beloved Apple iPad just heard the news: Apple’s holding a special event on March 2. The invite doesn’t say “New iPad”, but the imagery is clear: a calendar page is peeling back to reveal an iPad. What else could it be but the second generation iPad? It’ll be different than the iPad I own, ostensibly better. This is what worries my iPad. It assumes, and I’m not sure I can argue with it, that I’ll race to replace yesterday’s model with the latest, and possibly greatest, tablet on the market.

Don’t get me wrong, my iPad has been plenty good to me. I travel with it and use it for e-mail, web browsing, movie watching, music and audio-book playing, directions, astronomy, Angry Bird throwing, race car driving, newspaper reading, controlling my DVR, and drawing. In fact, I probably spend more time drawing on the iPad than I do anything else. No question about it, the Apple iPad is currently my favorite device. So why would I give it up?

No, I wouldn’t give it up for one of the competitive tablets from Toshiba, Motorola, Samsung, , or even RIM. I like what I see in these Tabs, Xooms, TouchPads and Playbooks, but these are relatively new and untested (in some cases unreleased) products. Plus, there’s no guarantee that they’ll feature my favorite apps. With enough time and success, I’m sure they will, but if I can make the transition from iPad V1 to iPad V2 without losing my apps, photos, music, movies, contacts, and drawings, then I see little reason to switch. Still, this doesn’t answer why I’d consider the iPad 2.

First let’s consider what Apple might introduce in the second-generation iPad. Before I begin, allow me to turn off my current iPad. I don’t want it watching and getting any more distressed than it already is.

It’s a lock that Apple will take the 1024×768 resolution up a few notches and possibly add the Retina Display to its tablet device. First introduced on the iPhone 4 last year, this high-resolution takes the display where no display has gone before, beyond the limits of human visual perception—at least that’s what Apple tells us. The reality is that it makes even the densest Web site a breeze to read on the iPhone 4 screen. Imagine what it will do to the iPad’s more generous screen real estate.

          ]]>

When I met with HP earlier this month to get up-close and personal with the new TouchPad (it took all night to convince my iPad that me and the TouchPad are, for now, just friends), HP said they only put one front-facing camera on the device because they could not imagine anyone holding up their 9.7-inch device and filming with it. I cannot tell you how many times I wished my iPad had cameras on the front and back. Of course I’d be happy to hold it up and film with it. I fully expect Apple to put cameras on both sides of the iPad 2.

Apple doesn’t talk very much about the raw power behind its home-grown A4 chip, but I’m sure Apple wants to crank it up a bit. In fact, with a much higher-screen resolutions, I don’t think has any choice. All the subsystem specs should go up. In fact, I would not be surprised if Apple drops the lower storage option (16 GB) on the iPad 2 and adds a new higher-end one: 128 GB.

If you haven’t spent any time with the 4th generation iPod touch, then you’re missing out. It is impossibly thin and powerful, plus it has a Retina Display and two cameras, which simply proves that Apple can squeeze a whole lot into a very tiny package. The iPad 2′s screen should be no smaller than the first generation one, but I do expect it to get a lot thinner—yet still be super sturdy.

Here’s a dirty little secret about the iPad: It does crash. Okay, not so much the iPad, but the apps that run on it. I think Apple will introduce an updated OS to better navigate app faults and more gracefully handle crash-prone apps. The latest OS will also support 20(!) fingers of touch and add more nuance to the multitasking support so you can see what’s going on under each of those app icons.

The iPad is already a great gaming device, but I predict that Apple will show some interesting Apple TV related technology where the iPad becomes a control pad for an HDTV-based game.

Each and every one of these changes makes the iPad 2 hard to resist. Higher resolution means my drawings will become more detailed and the output will be that much better, even at printout sizes larges than 8×10 inches. Two cameras means I can take photos to share or use with my art and start using FaceTime and Skype immediately. A faster processor means an end to some of the lag I see in drawing and gaming. A thinner iPad will encourage me to carry it around all the time. Right now, I still have to choose between my laptop and the iPad (sorry, but I still can’t get all my work done on the iPad).

I admit it, I’m guessing here. Apple could introduce a minor iPad upgrade, but I really don’t expect that. It’s not the Apple way—lately they tend to go big or go home. If some or all of these things happen, and Apple doesn’t raise the price of the iPad 2, then it’ll be hard for me to resist upgrading, but to upgrade, I’d have to sell or trade in (will Apple offer this?) my current iPad. This will not sit well with the device that’s my nightly couch companion. I worry about what the aluminum and glass device might do. Tell you what, let’s keep this little conversation between us and if my iPad asks, tell it we were talking about the Mets chances in 2011.

Second, nearly all those reviews pointed out the big elephant in the room; the iPad doesn’t really do anything better than an already available product. Think about it. You’ve got laptops with full keyboards, making them way better than the iPad at typing up long documents. And you’ve got desktops with big wide-screen monitors to watch movies and play games with.
5 Reasons Why Apple’s iPad Is a Great Gift for Grandma

When the iPad was first released, the majority of reviews had two things in common. One, they were for the most part positive. Pretty much everybody agrees the iPad is a great device, and tons of fun to use.

Even smart phones, with their increasingly speedy evolution in power, can do almost everything an iPad can. And they fit in your pocket. So, just who is this thing made for?

Well, grandma. Seriously.

Not just your grandmother, of course. The iPad is a really cool device, so if you want one, go get one! And it’s only going to get better as more and more developers head to the platform and start pumping out apps optimized for it. But, for senior citizens, the iPad has already arrived, so to speak. It doesn’t need that proverbial “killer app”, because for many seniors, the iPad itself is the killer app. It makes so many things easier and puts the functions of multiple devices into one easy to use tablet. Don’t believe it? Well read on for the top 5 reasons the iPad is a great gift idea for the seniors in your life.

One of the big complaints many techies have with the iPad’s operating system is actually a big plus for grandma. The iPad runs IOS, the same platform powering the iPhone 4 and current generation iPod touch. It’s completely locked down. All apps are screened by Apple before they go to the app store. Apple’s “walled garden” approach to their mobile software has been angering geeks for years (Acer aspire 5520 battery). They say those walls keep out potentially innovative apps. And there’s some truth in that. But those walls also keep out viruses, malware and scumware. They keep pollution from spoiling the pond.

The last thing someone who’s not tech-savvy wants to deal with is a locked up device flooded with malicious software. That can’t happen with the iPad. It runs the software it’s allowed to run, and it runs it just fine. No nasty sharks are getting in and eating the flounders. You can sleep well knowing when you hand grandma her new iPad, she’s not at risk of downloading a nasty program that can wreck the whole machine. You can’t say the same about any PC, no matter how well you think it’s protected.

You sit down to use your desktop. And you know how much your backs hurt when you spend a long time on a chair. You can move your laptop around, but using it in bed or lying on the couch isn’t really comfortable. And have you ever tried using it on your lap for any amount of time? You have to hunch your back over to use it like that! But it doesn’t matter how your body is positioned when you’re using an iPad. It’s a solid, light-weight piece of metal and glass. Smaller than a magazine, weighing in at around a hardcover novel. And you can hold it however you want, or don’t hold it if you have an iPad stand.

          ]]>

The screen’s orientation automatically adjusts the display so it’s always right side up. There’s really no wrong way to hold it. And that makes it a truly portable device. Most seniors deal with aches and pains in one way or another. But the iPad is one device grandma doesn’t have to get comfortable to use, because it’s already comfortable being used by her. That means less strain on older bones.

Most iPad apps incorporate adjustable text in one way or another. And unless you have poor eyesight yourself, you really have no idea how great this is. Being able to pinch to zoom, double tap to reformat, or click to enlarge what you’re reading is a huge benefit to many grandmothers out there.

You put strain on your eyes day in and day out with things like reading small print and spending too much time in front of the computer and television. Over the years all that strain adds up, and your vision begins to fade. This is happening to younger and younger people because of the proliferation of computers, but it’s still a bigger problem for seniors. Well, with the iPad it’s not a problem. It doesn’t matter if grandma left her glasses in the other room, or her vision is poor even with them. The iPad gives her an easy way to adjust the size of nearly everything she reads. Websites, email, text documents and so much more are always just the right size for tired eyes. And that leads right to the next point…

Sure, the iPad is really popular with the young, hip crowd. Which is a little ironic, considering it really excels as an e-reader, and reading books is something many young people just don’t seem that interested in these days. But many seniors still love to curl up with a good book. And the iPad makes it easy. First off, you get iTunes for books with Apple’s new iBook e-reader / online book store. Thousands of titles you can read within seconds of downloading. And the bright 9.7 inch display makes reading easier than ever for all the grandmothers out there.

Now, there are a lot of great things about the Kindle’s e-ink display, like how much it mimics the look and feel of paper. But the iPad is a better choice for someone with vision problems. The back-lit display makes it so much easier on the eyes then straining to get good light on the Kindle. And of course, grandma can change the font size for ultimate comfort.

And if iBooks doesn’t happen to have the book your grandmother is looking for, she can just download the Kindle app. It put’s Amazon.com’s huge selection of books on the iPad’s gorgeous display. Both the iBooks and Kindle apps are free.

With the iPad, you’re plugged into Apple’s unique media ecosystem. And of course that includes iTunes, and all the great TV shows and movies that come along with Sony vgp-bps2a battery. Did your grandma miss her favorite show last night? No problem, she can just fire up her iPad and download it. Does she want a copy of the entire previous season? It’s just a few clicks away.

The iPad let’s you buy and watch content on your own time, so it doesn’t matter if you forgot to tune in last night. It also makes renting movies a whole lot easier than going to the video store. With iTunes, your iPad is the video . You can rent and buy all your favorite films and watch them right on the iPad. Grandma won’t have to jimmy-rig dozens of wires between her TV and computer. All it takes is the iPad. You should also let her know about Netflix.com, and how she can stream thousands of movies straight to her iPad for one low monthly price.

The iPad is a great device for anyone to own, but for seniors getting an iPad can be absolutely life changing. It makes so many things they like doing easier than ever. Even if your grandmother is tech-phobic, the iPad is a joy to use. The IOS software is probably the most user-friendly operating system out there right now. Anyone can be up and running within minutes of picking up an iPad for the first time. And that’s without even go into all the great casual games like Solitaire and Mahjong she can play. Plus the iPad can give a disabled senior a window to the world they might not otherwise have.

It gives you many different ways to stay in touch with loved ones with things like email and apps like Skype. And it costs much less than the average laptop. So if you’re having trouble finding a gift for grandma, consider the iPad and some iPad accessories. It just might change her life.

Considerably, nowadays that the dust has settled in San Francisco and Steve Jobs is done giving his much talked about iPad to the world, there is a good deal to reckon and reflect. The media hoopla ringing the iPad first appearance was zero short of prominent, but in the end many peoples were gone away feeling let down and posed by the new Apple production that looks like an over-sized iPhone and that proffers practically the same features.

Was it Apple’s intention to criticise the ebook referee, more specifically, the Kindle off its axises and direct it spinning into eternity? Partly possibly. Or was the Apple iPad created as an endeavor at pioneering a whole new class of electronics? Rattling belike, yes, studying how the iPhone poohed pooh an integral revolution in what we like a shot call in the smartphone category. The iPhone is afterall, the top merchandising cellular telephone ever.

The head that is waylaying out thither (and being hashed out with mania justly like a shot) is whether or not the Apple iPad be the ‘Kindle Orcinus orca’? Intermission and see for a instant, if you will, the fact that there are twelves of fresh, groundbreaking digital reviewers poised to enter the market place in the very nigh future. Asus, e.g. who truly agitated things up by enclosing us to its cheap line of rattling open netbooks or miniskirts laptop computers as they are called, is before long to secrete a lineup of electronic readers that are going to cost well less than the Kindle or yet the top-selling Sony Readers. The novel Asus ereaders are packed with characteristics that may very well position the Kindle to pity. Therefore, back to the interrogative of whether the Apple iPad is the ‘Kindle sea wolf’, it is tentative. Kindle should be watching its back aright today and not for the iPad but for the new e-reader devices that are en route.

Certain, the iPad is very something. The touch screen looks astonishing and play on the device should be a gust as should browsing the web. But, there are a whole fate of peoples out there who do not desire a device that can perform a people of routines. Many serious lectors out in that respect merely do not care to be carked by having a browser on their ebook reading device for instance. Sort of, they need the convenience of an e-book lector that grants them to store an integral library of books and not practically more.

This twelvemonth is certain to convey Virago’s Kindle a whole agglomerate of hassle in the contest section and not necesarily from the iPad. Erstwhile a couple of of great new ereaders in conclusion embark the market place and it is identified that they are even as good looking and capable as the Kindle and Sony, things will for certain change. Consumers will be proffered spectacular devices at practically lower damages than what is available today.

The most innovative product from Apple is a terrific gaming and multimedia tool with its stunning big screen that is perfect for internet browsing. This computer is a programmers dream, think of the great applications and games that can be created for it.

There are, of course some points to fix and this will not be a reasonable and unbiased Apple iPad appraisal if it would lack the need for change part. The fact that the product does not include a Flash application plug-in support is disturbing. Especially when you imagine that this is one product where you expect to be a lot of features to be very interactive. I mean, actually, what is the point of having created a big screen in the beginning if you would not have Flash Plug ins installed? Another concern is the fact that there is no choice for multi-tasking.

One of the greatest things about the iPad is the iBooks application. A digital book shelf for your e-books. Reading a book takes on a whole new look with the iBook.. Apple may be creating a whole new generation of book lovers with this great application.

There will be loads of opinions of the new Apple iPad, but I am positive they will all concur this is a terrific product! With a few small fixes, Apple will have the computer for all other businesses to imitate.

Apple Ipad Unveiled – Take A Look At Apple’s New Gadget

If you follow Apple, or tech news in general, you will know that Steve Jobs unveiled the iPad this week in San Francisco.

His goal/dream for the iPad is that it will bridge the gap between smartphones and laptops. But does the iPad fill this gap? Not really. But we’ll get to that in just a moment. The iPad at first glance looks like a scaled up version of the iPhone. And in some ways it is. First let’s take a look at the dimensions.

Click Here To Grab yourself one free Ipad Voucher Courtsey of Ticket Machine (Multiple claims not allowed)

The iPad is half an inch thick, which is why many people began referring to it as iSlate. The IPS display is a rather respectable 9.7 inches. In comparison, the iPhone has a 3.5 inch display. The whole devices weighs 1.5 pounds.

According to Steve Jobs, the iPad has a battery life of 10 hours, and can stay in stand-by for one month.

Hardware specs are also pretty decent. The processor is a 1 GHz Apple A4, which should provide more speed than it does. As it stands, the iPad is not capable of multitasking. What does that mean? Well, if you’re reading this, you probably have your browser open. If you checked your inbox, your email client may be open. Then there is whatever other programs you normally use on your computer. With the iPad you can only use one application at a time. Disappointing, isn’t it?

I really don’t see this as a limitation of the hardware. Either the OS can’t handle the demands, or won’t. In either case this is something that Apple will have to fix in a future release.

As with most of the other hardware, Apple makes the iPad come in multiple different flavors, these range from the 16GB to the 64GB versions, with the price increasing for each one. The 16GB version costs 9, with the 32GB version jumping to 9. If you want the big version with 64GB storage space, you will be looking to spend 9.

The iPad connects over WiFi 802.11n, although some versions come with 3G. The data plans for the device start at .99 a month for 250MB of transfer, while the unlimited plan costs the double, .99, and you get free access to AT&T hot spots. Unlike the iPhone, there aren’t any contacts you get locked into. Instead it runs on the pre-paid model, which is activated directly through the device.

Some of the other features the iPad comes with are an accelerometer, compass, microphone, speaker, and a 30-pin connect. If you think you’re going to get a camera too, think again. The iPad does not come with a camera. This is rather disappointing, since including one with the device would make sense.

That about sums up the feature list. Does it sound like something you will need to have?

For me there are several issues with the iPad in its current state.

First, it doesn’t offer multitasking, which is a fundamental part of using a computer. If this isn’t changed, it isn’t anything more than a glorified iPhone with a lame name. This is the biggest problem for me with the device. Maybe this won’t bother most of the users, but for anyone that wants to do more than browse the Internet, read some email, and listen to music (not at the same time) this isn’t a viable solution.

Second, the lack of a camera. Apple’s solution for this was two huge adapters that could/should have been built into the device in the first place. Neither of them actually gives the device “real” camera functionality, instead they are only a way to import photos. Here is what Apple has to say about them:

The Camera Connection Kit gives you two ways to import photos and videos from a digital camera. The Camera Connector lets you import your photos and videos to iPad using the camera’s USB cable. Or you can use the SD Card Reader to import photos and videos directly from the camera’s SD card.

My verdict, if you’re looking for something bigger than your iPhone, and only care about browsing the Internet, reading your email, and other simple functions then this might be for you. I feel that Apple is trying to bank on the trendiness of their products rather than truly bridge the current gap between smartphones and laptops. If the iPad is their solution, we still have a long way to go.

Apple has once again produced a fruit of genius—the iPad touch. The fresh product of Apple, iPad touch, is one of the most coveted multi-purpose devices that allow users to peruse the Web, use email, play music and games, store pictures and watch videos, TV and movies. The iPad touch looks very like a bigger iPhone, but is not simply an iPhone. It also features a portable or a netbook but it is smaller in comparison to that. In fact, iPad is a new, exciting technology that works as a full laptop and an iPhone yet is a class all its own.

In addition, the device is 0.5 inches thick and weighs just 1.5 pounds – lighter than any netbook and includes a 9.7-inch LED-backlit display with IPS technology. It also includes a 1GHz Apple-built A4 processor which incorporates the CPU and graphics. It’s got a 178-degree viewing angle and sports a 1024768 pixel resolution display at 132 pixels per in.. That implies iPad permits you to execute things you can’t do on any other machine. Plus it has the following features for such a sleek and light device:

Safari
The large multi-touch screen on iPad lets you see webpages as they were intended to be seen – one full page at a time.

Mail
by using a split-screen view, you can see both an opened email and all the messages in your mail.

Photographs
iPad is an extraordinary way to enjoy and share stills. For instance, you can collect and display your stills in an album like they’re in a stack. You can flip through your photos, zoom in or out, watch a slideshow, or even use iPad like a digital photo frame. One of the other good features of iPad is easily importing and synchronizing stills from your personal computer.

Video
any sort of video can simply be observed on the big and high-resolution screen on the iPad. IPad has a huge screen with no buttons and no other distracting features. So you can watch your HD movies, television shows or any videos by feeling completely immersed.

iPad is integrated with iPod apps.

iTunes
To skim and buy podcasts, TV shows or music, just tap on the iTunes Store icon. You will quickly find thousands of television shows, movies, songs and podcasts. iPad also enables you to preview songs before you purchase them.

App Store
iPad is virtually integrated with 140.000 apps from the App Store. By drumming the App Store icon on the screen, apps can be perused, bought, and downloaded wirelessly without delay to the iPad.

iBooks
iPad offers us another a great way to read or buy books.?t is even possible to see topography with the new terrain view. But there’s more: you may also search for a close-by business type and tap the business to see the route and directions from where you are.

Notes
iPad uses an expansive display and large, onscreen keyboard to make jotting down notes straightforward for you.

Calendar
iPad supplies the calendar you need by showing Day, Week, Month or List perspectives. In this fashion, iPad allows for a top level view of a whole month, or the details of a single day.

Spotlight Search
you can search your mail, contacts, calendar, iPod, and notes across iPad. Its spotlight Search feature even permits you to search apps you have downloaded from the App Store. This allows you to quickly find what you’re trying to find. I mean, just imagine how such a light contraption could carry a large amount of hi-tech features in its body; you certainly won’t expect it to be as inexpensive as you want it to be. Or certainly you could not expect Apple to create such a device only to give away free iPad touch to us, right?

However, there are sites that offer to offer you free iPad touch if you complete their offers and if you are actually prepared to have one, you can check for free iPad touch offers in the net; Or if you can afford to purchase one, why not? Either way, the iPad touch will not give you any regrets for purchasing it. I suspect those wonderful features, fascinating and classy design is reason enough as to the reasons why you should buy one right now!

Apple announced it sold 300,000 iPads on the first day it was available, so the device is off to a good start. But as I’ve said before, I think we need to see how people are really using the iPad after they’ve had it for a couple of months before we’ll know whether this is really a game-changer or just a fun gadget.

My iPad arrived mid-morning on Saturday, and despite the beautiful weekend, I was able to spend some time with it. So far, I’ve found a few annoyances, but in general, my experiences have been quite positive.

As usual, with most Apple devices, the iPad just looks great. After I got it set up, I immediately found myself fighting my family for time on the device. The metal case and the tapered sides make it look thinner and lighter than it actually is. The brushed aluminum case felt a bit slippery, but in general the iPad handled well. At 1.5 pounds, it’s notably heavier than a newspaper, magazine, or Kindle, but I don’t think that’s going to be a real barrier to people using it.

Setup was straightforward. The iPad works with iTunes, just like an iPod or iPhone, and you select the applications, music, videos, and photos you want to transfer within iTunes. However, to get your iPad to work, you need to download and install iTunes 9.1, and for some reason, that version took about 40 minutes to process my iTunes library.

So far, I’ve mostly used the device to try out a few of the media applications. I’ve found a lot to like about applications from the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, USA Today, Marvel Comics, ABC and others. In general, I have been pretty impressed by the creativity theses applications have shown, and expect we’ll see more in the future. (See my take here.) I’m still not convinced that many people will pay for these applications if the same content is available for free on Web sites, but there is something to be said for the fact that you now can take the information with you offline.

I found the iPad generally quite easy to read. In normal lighting at home and in the shade outdoors, it looked pretty good. Like most LCD screens, it doesn’t work in bright sunlight, and I found the reflections on the screen a bit annoying when trying to read newspaper applications on the train. So far I’m generally happy with the LCD display, though I haven’t really tried reading books for any length of time yet. (The book I wanted to read this week isn’t out in electronic form.)

I have tried both Exchange and Web mail on the device, and the new UI for the mail client is pretty interesting. When you hold the screen horizontally, you see a list of messages on the left and the actually message (with HTML formatting) on the right. When you hold it vertically, you see one message at a time, but you can tap on a button to see a scrolling list of all your messages, or a list of all of your folders.

My Yahoo mail account seemed to work pretty well offline, but the Exchange mail really needed a connection (as it does on the iPhone). I like the way that the iPad indexes mail messages and contacts along with files from the main search screen. In general, I’ve been pretty happy with the iPhone mail client. I find it does more than the mail client on the Motorola Droid, for example; though Mac and Windows mail clients have lots of capabilities.

The Safari Web browser works the same on the iPad as it does on the iPhone, with all the same pros and cons, except, of course, you can see a lot more of the page on the larger screen. And that does make a huge difference. A laptop will typically have at least as big a screen as an iPad, naturally, and will support Flash and Silverlight–and that’s a big deal, at least right now.

For instance, in email this weekend, I had several messages with links to YouTube videos or sites with music, and they just didn’t work on the iPad. (One of these was a link to the OK Go “This Too Shall Pass” Rube Goldberg-type video, which has over 10 million views, but clicking on it on the iPad just gets you a “could not load video” box. You can find a similar version using the YouTube application, but it’s not the same.)

The iPad doesn’t have nearly the battery life of an e-reader, owing in part to the LCD display. But it wasn’t bad. I got about 8 hours before I saw the “battery low” message, which is a bit less than what Apple claims and notable worse that many of the first reviews. My guess is that a weak Wi-Fi signal draws more power from the battery than a strong one.

Sitting on a couch using the iPad for Web surfing e-mail was a pleasant experience. The machine is relatively light and seems snappy. But did I miss features I have on my laptop? Absolutely.

The lack of a physical keyboard is obvious. The onscreen keyboard isn’t bad; it’s perfectly fine for responding to e-mail messages, but I wouldn’t have wanted to type this review on screen. Tim Gideon of PC Magazine wrote his review that way, but it’s not for me. If we all were using onscreen keyboards only, a physical keyboard would seem like a huge advance.

Multitasking is another obvious issue. You can play music from iTunes while running other applications, but not from Pandora or Rhapsody.

On the other hand, it is very easy to pick the iPad up and just use it without thinking about booting (assuming it’s charged), and I didn’t find myself really minding the absent keyboard, multitasking, or Flash all that often. I’m going to have to give this a try for a bit longer and see how often I end up reaching for the iPad and how often I’m going back to my laptop.

I’ve used other tablets before, and the iPad clearly offers a better consumer experience than what has gone before. But I think the jury is still out as to whether it will move from being a fun gadget for early adopters to a really useful addition to the technology that most people use.
